Tomatosphere Lab Report Information

I have changed to original due date for the report.  I will collect the Tomatosphere Lab Reports the following week.

Class 4-216 Lab Reports are due on Monday, January 9, 2012

Class 4-215 Lab Reports are due on Tuesday, January 10, 2012.

Below is the Checklist of what is expected in the Lab Report.  I am going over it in class with the children.  Please e-mail me at scifun205@gmail.com if you need further clarification.

I have told the children it is to be done on loose lined paper.  It is to be done in their best print. I thin it will be too difficult for the children to type the Procedure using the requirements for a good Procedure.

Tomatosphere Checklist:

#1: Your first & last name and your class must be on every page. Then skip a line.

#2: The Title of the Lab Report is on the first page: “Tomatosphere 2011”” Then skip a line.

#3: Problem: The question you are trying to solve-you copied it already, but here it is in case you misplaced it.

Problem: Will the seeds kept at -90oC (-1300F) and without air still grow?

#4: Skip a line & do your Hypothesis.  It is at least one paragraph long.  Remember it does not matter if you guessed right or wrong, only if you explain your idea.  Please do NOT change your original Prediction.  A good Hypothesis says yes or no & restates the problem.  It must tell why you think it will happen.  The clearer your explanation the higher that grade.

Hypothesis: Yes (No), I think that the seeds kept at -90oC (-1300F) and without air will (not) still grow.  I think this will happen because…

#5: The Materials must be written down.  Please write it the way I taught you, see below:

Materials: Jiffy 7 peat pots, D seeds, M seeds, water, tray, plastic cover, labeling sticks,

#6: Procedure 1 & 2.  You copied it from the board.  I hope you copied it correctly. Do NOT skip lines between Steps.  Skip a line between the Procedures.  Remember Procedure 2 is only the one sentence that you copied from the board.

Procedure 1: D Seeds

Step 1: Soak the Jiffy 7 peat pellets in water for 20 minutes.

Step 2:

#7: Observations: Should include your descriptions of the plants.  It should have your table’s plants information, the class totals, and the labeled pictures of D & M plants.  You should skip a line between the different days of Observations.

Observations: ( and the date)

#8: The Conclusion: This tells if your Hypothesis was right or wrong.  Tells what actually did happen in the first paragraph.   A very good Conclusion has a second paragraph telling what you learned and if this gives you ideas for other experiments and/or if this information can be used by you or your family in any way.

Conclusion: My Hypothesis was wrong (right). The seeds kept at -90oC (-1300F) and without air did still grow.  I think this happened because….

This is your first Lab Report.  Please write in your neatest print.  It must be done on loose leaf, NOT  in your notebook.  It needs to be neat-no rips or tears.  You should be able to find all the parts in your notebook.  Please let me know if you are missing something because you were absent.

I hope this helps.

Have a wonderful vacation & Happy Holidays,

Mrs. Bosi
